is it wrong to wish your team’s colors were L.I.M.E.
instead of, hmmm, navy & orange??

Then it would be as easy as shooting ducks in a barrel – I’d already have one sock done and would not be tempted by this – Laura K writes: “By the way, have you seen the Bears colorway by Lorna’s Laces? It’s a fun self-striping blue orange combo–I saw it at Arcadia last week.”

How cool is knitting a sock during the game? Well, maybe not as cool as Jodee who wrote: “I knit an orange and blue hat during the game to keep me from biting my nails!!”

I will have to call. Becasue. I. Have. NO. Willpower. And I am not afraid of being the fan who’s a little bit of a wan**er if that’s what it takes to get a championship trophy! If you recall, something really good happened the night I was knitting a black’n’white sock awhile back…

Meanwhile, Sock #1 of 56 St 56 Row Pair is done, washed and being admired. I have a chair across from the chair I usually sit’n’knit and it is the Gallery Chair. I find I’ve been draping new FOs over it when they’re done so I can admire them for a spell before I put them in the sweater cupboard. (Yes, one perfect little reason to slack off housework.)

This pattern is just so easy and fun – but it disappeared from the web awhile back. Its author, the wonderful Nancy T McGLynn, gave me permission to publish it again online here on Chic Knits for you to enjoy…

(good for any medium weight sock yarn that knits to a gauge of 7 sts / 10 rows per 1″ – makes a Women’s Size M sock)

Awesome sock, thanks for the pattern link!

be careful about that fan-knitting-during-the-game! i knit tiger socks during the world series, and, well, they didn’t win. i’m not as fast as you, so i also worked on the tiger socks while the bengals played, and they lost, too! i probably jinxed both sports.

bears sock yarn? i can get behind that.

  4. maryse says:

since the pats are out, i’d be willing to knit some bears socks during the superbowl. i was really hoping for a bears-pats rematch. damn that peyton manning.

  5. Amanda says:

Are you kidding? Orange is my color all the way! Guess it stems from having the same HS colors as the Bears….and those Illini…I think I need some Bears sock yarn… Oooh, the temptation! Do they have Colts colors too? Because Peyton is my boyfiend (he doesn’t know it yet) :-)

It’s so interesting to see your Crazy Color sock knit up – it looks just like the picture on the label! I’m working on a pair of socks from yarn that I got on my trip to Germany this summer, and it’s completely different in the striping. Not really striping, but just lots of varigated color. I keep thinking that I’m crazy…

  7. Melanie says:

I’m so loving that yarn! The colors are great – I’ve been searching for the same color locally with no success :-( Thanks for posting the pattern as well – a good basic pattern is definitely a must.

  8. amisha says:

i am just loving that colorway! yum.
florida’s colors are bright blue & orange… despite my love for the latter there is no way that i am going there. no indeed.

  9. Jennifer says:

Bears colors sock yarn? You must knit socks with it.

De-lurking here. The 56 St 56 Row pattern was the one I used for my very first pair of socks. I followed it religiously, even through all the parts I didn’t understand. A couple of years later, I’m still wearing those socks so I’ve got a nostalgic fondness for the pattern. Thanks for keeping it available.

I don’t have any orange & blue sock yarn but I’ll think supportive thoughts for the Bears anyway.

  11. claudia says:

I’ll root (such as I do, which isn’t alot) for the Bears just for you.

  12. rb says:

Oh, thank you! I had asked about that pattern. I just printed it.

I have that exact yarn. Is that embarrassing? I don’t remember where I got it, but I did only buy two balls because I thought that’s how all sock yarn worked. Alas, someone’s going to get some green anklets….

  13. Laura K. says:

I’m thinking I’m going to have to buy an offical Bears jersey, because as a dyed-in-the-wool Iowa Hawkeye, I cannot/will not wear regular orange and blue clothing. My Illini relatives would never let me hear the end of it…. So, consider my earlier mention of the Lorna’s Laces Bears colorway as a public service….

  14. Carol says:

Thanks for re-visit to that pattern! Yours looks perfect! I don’t blame you for admiring your work for a while-it’s beauty and accomplishment all together. Anything that will get us out of housework is very much appreciated;)

I am still a little scared of sock knitting, but that one is so beautiful I may be crossing over to the “dark side” LOL. It’s GORGEOUS!
