Last year, sometime around Time for a NEW! Idea, Chic Knits decided to try something different. Two or three times a week, we get email from knitters who want to know if they can get our patterns in a way other than PDF files – in paper form? Perhaps mailed to them or purchased at their LYS? Hmm. What a great idea!

We loved that idea. We loved it so much, we started prototyping graphics and layouts that would reflect our modern look – the Modern Look that many knitters have added to their wardrobes the last few years using Chic Knits patterns. NOW ready for the Runway? Hard copy brochure editions of a selection of knitting patterns from our portfolio!

To celebrate, we decided to go back to the beginning – to one of the first designs ever to hit the runway at Chez Chic, in 2002: the Ribby Pulli, fashioned in a 2028 gauge.

This time, however, we decided to go for broke and make it just like we envisioned it in our wildest dreams – just like we wanted to wear it. And the only way to do this? Design the yarn colorway ourselves and have it made up to order, just for this garment.

And, but of course, the first person who came to mind when we thought of beautiful dyeing was Jamie from Scout’s Swag!

Over the last couple of years, she’s worked tirelessly to develop and distribute some of the most incredible colorways online. And not only are the colorways fabulous, but Scout’s yarn base and craftsmanship are absolutely wonderful. We wanted a worsted weight wool in two subtle colorways.

Lucky for me, she was able to work with us and she took our inspiration and made it reality – and I have to say – when I opened the package from Albuquerque, I was simply blown away – she nailed it!

    Yowza! I love it!

  2. margene says:

I’m dying for that sweater. Scout and I are in discussions about color. She nailed it but so did you! It’s one classic, another classic, Bonne Marie design.

  3. Wanda says:

I love that Ribby Pulli and I’m glad that you and Jamie were able to get the look you were trying to achieve. Since it looks like she may be carrying the pattern, I’ll have to place an order tout suite! :-)

  4. sue says:

Wow. That’s a great idea. Please tell me that you plan to have Jami come up with a custom yarn combination for Ribbi Cardi too.
Totally switching subjects: please consider designing something to celebrate the return of Lion Brand Cotton Ease too. I just finished Sitcom Chic for my daughter in one of the old colors of Cotton Ease. It’s a great sweater pattern.

I just have to say, how lucky you are to have such fun things to dabble with! And an aside, not only are your patterns amazing in their design, but the actual graphic design is great as well. I just thought about that when you were writing about the “modern look.” You have hit the nail on the head with the type and the circles – love them!

  6. Colleen says:

I’ve been seeing you drop tidbits about this for a long time – thank you FINALLY for a picture. And, of course, you don’t disappoint. Must. Have. Ribbi. Pulli.

  7. Bets says:

    Absolutely Fantastic!

  8. Tracey says:

I remember the original! Wasn’t it orange top and blue bottom? I remember thinking how great it was because of the way it pulled your eye up to the top of the sweater. Yay! So? Don’t hold out on us, where can we get this pattern? I am dying to cast on! You’ve come a long way baby!

  9. sogalitno says:

    WOW

one question – do you sleep? ;o

    It looks great!

Still have to fix my Ariann and then can block and wear – soon!

  10. Karen says:

    It’s wonderful!

  11. Carol says:

Only Scout can come up with colors like that! Excellent!!!

  12. Samina says:

That looks great. Will these newer patterns & variations still be available for download for those of us in search of instant gratification & a love of electronic storage?

  13. OMIGOSH!
