ha ha ha

Go ahead – laugh at the grey skies – mock Motha Nature because she’s mocking YOU!

What better way to do it than a really big burst of b.LIME! Spurred on by the Green Sock Knitalong, I have been maniacally knitting this simple sock.

It is the ubiquitous 56 st / 56 Row Sock from Regia and this is their Crazy Color sock yarn in color Green #5264.

Winter is back in a big way here in Chicago – the type of cold weather that inspired the phrase *turtleneck* which IMHO refers NOT to a collar treatment but instead describes the way frozen wind-smacked humans hunker down into their jackets, using their collars to sheild their red, red noses.

It is so brisk here in the WindyCity that even with a scarf the cold makes one scrunch, shoulders UP, head tucked in, to face the 20-30 mph wind.

Somehow, this COLOR rescues me with it’s warmth. Last night, on the #66 after waiting in the dark, I quickly found a seat and turtled in, knitting out, and didn’t realize my face was half-covered by my jacket the entire ride until I rose to my full height to leave at my stop and felt a draft at my neck.

Hey – a big Thank You to Karen from Mingling Yarn for the shout-out on the Yahoo KnitList – thanks so much for the compliment!

    That sock screams **BONNE MARIE!!**

Did ya see that Lion Brand brought back Cotton Ease? Made me think of you…

  2. margene says:

Tesesa! I was going to say the very same thing. The sock is so you Bonne Marie!

Green: a redheads best friend. I LOVE that sock colorway! It’s great! Can’t wait to see this bad boy finished!

I love your revised definition of turtleneck — that’s totally what we all do!

    Me love green sock!

  7. Wanda says:

You’re on a sockin’ roll, gf. I like that green sock as well as your finished LL’s socks. I’ve got some socks on the needles too and love them!

  8. Gaile says:

Love LOVE the green sock! It makes me think of Spring. You make me want to knit socks. In fact I downloaded your sock pattern the other day. No green yarn in the stash tho.

We’ve been experiencing crazy winds (and a TON of snow now) in BC, but this last time it got so cold I took my only t-neck OFF my dressform where it’s been living forever, because I needed it a whole lot more than she did!

  9. Karen says:

Whoa — mentioned on Chic Knits, there’ll be no living with me now! No thanks needed though, I’ve been a longtime fan. Came for the knitting, but love those ‘slice of life’ posts on Chicago/your work.

  10. amisha says:

  14. Bonne Marie says:

Thanks so much! It is like a pina colada on a hot hot summer day (poor little cold grey chicago…)

  15. rb says:

    Cute, cute, cute.

So, I get the 56 stitch part, but what’s the significance of 56 rows? Is that the recommended cuff length? Designed so you don’t run out of yarn? Inquiring minds want to know.

What size needles are you using?

  16. Bonne Marie says:

The 56 Row thingie refers to the cuff and foot length of the sock using this yarn – it comes out to an average woman’s size – just a little mnemonic device.

I looked all over for the pattern – it used to be online but has disappeared.

  17. claudia says:

That is a wildly funny picture.

  18. laughingrat says:

That is a great pic! I love the colors and the random striping of the yarn, too.

  19. Norma says:

I totally understand the color therapy thing! Lime green does it for me, but orange even more. Makes the brain feel juicy or sumpin’…. :)

  20. Lolly says:

Love the pic! Your doll can be in the KAL as well ;) The socks look awesome!
