“Just because something is possible to do,
does that mean we should do it?

Marji says it all! Read this and then come back and vote!

To answer the “If we can do it, should we?” question: yes, but only if it serves a higher purpose. I, too, am bothered by the use of Hepburn’s image to sell pants.

  2. Jennifer says:

You know, almost all the pant choices look horrible on me, so I had to go with the boot cut. I’m dreading this winter’s pant fashions.

  3. Pam says:

I had a hard time voting here,,,I wear boot cut ( snug on the top but definately boot cut on the bottom) cuz I have this outrageous collection of real cowboy boots~ I pick up a pair everytime I happen to be in Texas, I love em! ( oh they are FUN!)
In summer, I love capri’s.( OR in winter if I happen to have to travel south,,,)

Right now I am looking for some very tailored gaucho’s to go with some dress brown boots and a fun soft jacket I own,,,,so how do you just pick one?
I love most of them,,each for their own look~

Guess I am not just settled on one look and glad I dont box myself into just one style! I do however wear what looks best on me irregardless.
    Happy Knitting~
    Pam

I can’t see Audrey’s pic on the blog for some reason, but the Audrey campaign may not be very effective. I was at the mall yesterday with 2 12-yo’s (condolences accepted), and as we walked by the Gap, they looked at the Audrey pix and said, “who’s that?”, and kept going.

  5. Pam says:

Guess I have to back up my statement regarding the wearing of gaucho pants,,,what I like or better said,,,,what I will wear,, is TAILORED gaucho trousers( with boots,),,not those made of polywhatever.

    BIG DIFFERENCE HERE.
    Other ones eeewwww,,,,,,
    Pam

  6. Lisa says:

NO ONE looks good in skinny pants and we all know that does not prevent others from wearing something-oy!

  7. Tracey says:

ACK!!! Oh I absolutely despise GAP, they are so very unoriginal, so very…..beige. Poor Audrey.

  8. Erica B. says:

I hate those Gap ads. The print ad with Liya Kebede looks like 80’s Michael Jackson instead of Audrey.

  9. Marji says:

well, as I wrote Aug 31 in this whole thing on did on pant shapes, I think the skinny pants belong on the very young and very skinny and even then they don’t look Good, I love gauchos – tailored thank you, I love many of the wider silhouettes. Capris are a little like skinny pants – guaranteed to make the tush look wider than it is.
I hadn’t seen the Audrey ad – I love Audrey, I don’t know what she would think about it.

  10. Toby Wollin says:

Oh, ok..now I understand where we are going with this – we’ve got a “two-fer” here: The “do we NOT have any respect for the dead?” and the “I can fit into them and therefore I should wear them” thing.
Well, as a woman of (ahem) a certain age and length of limb(short), I can tell you that boot-cuts are what have residence in my closet. Now, if you are short AND also wear something like a size 2, perhaps you can get away with some of these styles, but I do think I look a lot better and/or taller in boot-cuts than in any other style of pant.

  11. loonytick says:

I hate boot cut. Hate it, hate it, hate it. They make thighs look like sausages stuffed into casings, compared to the lower leg that’s got so much more fabric. And they’re usually lower rise, so the waist drives a straight line right across the hips-NOT attractive. So I’m glad to see them go.

But the new styles are no better!

    SIGH.

This is why I pretty much live in skirts.

  12. rb says:

OMG, I think loonytick might be my lost twin. I LIVE in skirts.

(and spanx, if you must know.)

  13. Pam says:

The extreams of any of the styles are not particularly flattering on anyone but a runway model. The thing that I hope they will change is hiphuggers. I was around for the first incarnation and dont’ find them flatterning on most people either. Doesn’t anyone remember the plumber “butt cleavage” jokes? I’m kind of tired of feeling like my pants are fallling off. Also, I really don’t want to go back to knitting an afghans worth of stitches to get a sweater that covers the exposed “private parts” shown in leggings.
