Tuesday, February 8, 2006       Reminder: MCA SnB tonight

Sunday mornings at Chez Chic usually go something like this: drink the coffee, read the mail, drink the coffee, read the NYTimes, drink the coffee, realize it’s noon and you’ve done nothing! Drink the coffee and watch your Little Bad Muse plot your busy Path of Destruction…

This last Sunday, while I was still on the paper, the Muse went all the way out to Albuquerque, possessed Scout, who in turn wickedly tagged me for a Super Bowl Sunday Knitting Challenge! AHH! Never one not to blink when staring a Rascal in the eye, I accepted! DROP Everything, except the cuppa, but of course…

This lovely stuff is a pile of Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Worsted, herded up on a yarn crawl to their studio (June 17th – anybody recognize the Shawl pattern in that picture?). The color is marked “one-of-a-kind” and it truly is! Now no where in this SBC, did the idea of NEW PROJECT come into play [I think it was more, like, knit as much as you can until your hands fall off or you're too tipsy to throw], but since I was on my own, I decided to make my own RULES! If I could’ve I would’ve just STARTED projects all day long and left them like little plastic beer cups all over the Ford Field of my living room…

There is more going on here than in your mouth after a taste of some luscious Junior Mints! Minty Aqua, Sage, Cocoa, Ruddy Brown & a Ruddy Lilac! All living together in harmony on some really soft yummy strands – all joining together in a cute circle to make a Short Sleeved Ribbi Pullover!

That is until reality reared its head and I got all distracted by some late breaking plumbing supplies – last year, around Christmas, I bought new toilet seats and two faucets. I had no idea of what I was getting into so the sink stuff just sat and sat, prominently, in the middle of the hallway, mocking me to DO SOMETHING! And, just a few short weeks ago, I was introduced to the Magic Phrase “Lefty Loosey, Righty Tighty” (thanks, Dale!), and installed my first Faucet. So Sunday, I ran 75 yards to the second bathroom and SCORED a game winning Sink Touchdown!

So what happened to all that Yummy Yarn? Well, it’s well on its way to be that Pulli – (this morning, 3″ and counting…)

Wow! That color combo is fantastic! And just yesterday I was reminding myself lefty loosey lefty loosey. Now if only I knew my right from left, we’d be all good!

  2. Scout says:

I’m off to concoct some other dare in which to present to you. *insert evil laugh* You showed me your weakness oh competitive one! ;)

    Bwahhaaaahaaaaa!!!

  3. Terry says:

Ooooh! A tour of LL – I can picture anyone getting to see LL hyperventilating. Gorgeous colors you got too. And I’m rah-rahing for you and the faucet installation – rah BM!

  4. Ann says:

Phew! Just got back from my virtual tour of Lorna’s Laces. You’re the best tour guide. As for that yarn of yours, I have never seen any of the Lorna’s Laces light/dark combo colorways knitted up (please don’t snicker), so I am deeefreakinglighted to see the beginnings of this ribby doodah thingie you’re starting. It looks like ice cream–chocolatey minty goodness.

  5. Wanda says:

That colorway is yum-licious! I love it. That will be oh-so-pretty.

  6. Imbrium says:

That colorway is amazing. Congratulations on the new faucets!

  7. jeanne says:

Isn’t it a total kick in the pants to do manly-man hardware installation things around the house? When I changed the shower head in the bathroom and rearranged the handles on the fridge to open the RIGHT WAY, I felt so very Capable!

Love the faucet – so stylish!

  8. Knittykim says:

Ahh…welcome to the world of plumbing, my little handy woman. Replacing sinks and toilets are easy, but time consuming. And watch out for that wax ring and caulk!! (ick….)

  9. Cathi says:

Hooray for DIY! I love doing all that stuff around the house.

And that Lorna’s- holy cow. I love it. Can’t wait to see more of it!

  10. moody knitter says:

I agree with everyone one hundred porcento. That your is scrumcious!! *excuse the spelling in English is not my language of choice.*
Can’t wait to see the end result.

  11. moody knitter says:

Man, i really hate English sometimes. That YARN is … ya know!!

  12. Laurie says:

What an accomplished, well-rounded woman! Plumbing projects one day, knitting projects the next. Yay!

And I think the LL is actually knitting up prettier than it is in the skein, if possible. purrrrrrrr

  13. cruz says:

Are you going to do a tutorial on installing a new sink/faucet? You could start a whole new website!

  14. Leah says:

    Yeah for the DIY gene!

    Lookin’ good!!

  15. Bonne Marie says:

Everytime I use the faucet, I get a little thrill…

  16. Amy Lu says:

Already a Master Knitter, on your way to being a Master Plumber?

I remember the Toilet Seats… Bemis brand, right? Or was it Mayfair? (they’re the same thing)

I used to work at Bemis in the plastic toilet seat division. It was my job to trim the sharp plastic from the inner edge of the ring. Just doing my job, keeping John Q. Public safe (grin).

  17. meg says:

Yummy yarrn!! Did you win? I bet you won :) Holey smokes, doing your own plumbing – you blow me away, woman! Nice faucet.

  18. Natalie says:

Love the DIY attitude, Bonne! And, I love the yummy yarn. Can’t wait to see the finished piece.

  19. Grace says:

I hope you do make it to Italy. I discovered last fall that the $ does not go far in Italy EXCEPT at yarn stores. Italian yarn is a bargain when bought in Italy versus when bought in the US.
