  Monday Morning Mirth

it isn’t often that something just really GRABS me, but while looking for some Italian Itineraries (for a possible Fall trip) I found this which led to…

My People, My Music(s)! And not only that, but Jimmy has more Grammys than BRUCE! or MICHAEL!

Ha ha! I remember going to family weddings when I was a small girl, and dancing the polka with older relatives. The Polka was taught in my school phy. ed. class from grade school through high school.

When you said “My people, my music” it made me laugh! Me too!

    Ah one, ahnda two…

One of my favorite (and oldest) memories is of dancing at a wedding with my little cousins at the KofC hall across from St. Adalbert’s. My great Uncle Gus put a chair in the middle of the dance floor and as people swirled around he kept time with the music with clapping and stamping and an occasional pinch to any comely skirt within reach.

This was perhaps my first shocking view of the Power of the Polka…

I grew up to the sounds and sights of Bobby and Cissy dancing to Myron Floren’s magical accordion.

I wonder if that’s what inspired my parents to sign me up for accordion lessons. As if I didn’t feel geeky enough back then.

Wow, always nice to see a pic of Jimmy Sturr, the Pride of Pine Island, NY !! I’m an old Orange County gal myself, one of my friends actually had him play at her wedding !!

  7. Karyn says:

Oh my gosh! I live in Orange County, NY where Jimmy Sturr is actually a big deal. I went out to eat with a bunch of girlfriends last fall, and he was at the restarant. He knew one of my friends, so he came over to our table to “impress” all of us, and ended up hitting on me! We have been laughing about it for 6 months!

Man, that music brings back memories. I grew up in Welk-land (North Dakota). In my home town, you weren’t considered really married unless you had a polka band at your wedding dance.
