  Monday Morning Mirth

The happiest days are when history herstory is being made: Kathryn Bigelow!
Congratulations Best Director Oscar Winner 2010

Take that, all ye inglorious basterds!
I have to say my eyes happily misted up along with all the Actors from The Hurt Locker.

After-show Post Deconstruct

vermazoe• Was it just me or were the hosts just Not Funny…
• George Clooney looked very Not Amused all evening (but then again some folks suggested he was wearing a wig!)
• The incredibly vibrant lipstick colors on most of the actresses had me running for my sunglasses — even in HD it was pulsating
• One shoulder and ruffles of all kinds were popular but ladies, no pom-poms across the rear-ahge. Right: Vera Farmiga; Wrong: Zoe Saldana
• Winslet, Parker & Bullock: very nice
• Ms. Theron: beautiful colored dress; incomprehensible flower thingies over breasties
• Do any of the starlets ever stand up straight?
• K. Stewart: Why so grumpy?
• WTF was Sean Penn mumbling about?
• Finally & I hate to admit it, D. Moore looked like a million!

I’m with ya. I was so upset my cable company was going to mess up my watching. After all the sturm and drang, I did get to watch and was very underwhelmed.
I thought Sandy B’s lipstick was a little too much, but other than that, I thought she looked fine.
Helen Mirren looked fabulous, don’t you think?
Glad for The Hurt Locker wins, too.

  2. Bonne Marie says:

I have to tell you, I am still all verklempt about Kathryn Bigelow’s win!

After working in television for a few years (!), I’ve fractured my skull on the glass ceiling more than once and it is GLORIOUS to see the work and director being honored in this way, at last.

Today, I stand straighter, walk taller, and feel ever so slightly revenged.

  3. Susan says:

Won’t it be great when a woman can win an award and nobody will feel the need to point out her gender? We need to get to the day when gender is no longer a roadblock.

I also thought Winslet and Bullock looked fabulous. Loved Parker’s dress but she looked horrid! Too gaunt.

  4. JennR says:

As far as I an tell, nobody’s ever taught the starlets the importance of good posture. I saw more than a few pretty dresses ruined by slouchy young people, and borderline dresses just looked hideous. (Honestly, even Miley’s dress would have looked a lot better had she been standing up straight.)

Kristen Stewart rarely if ever looks anything but grumpy in public. Somebody needs to tell her that she’d be a lot prettier if she looked pleasant.

Winslet and Bullock and Mirren for the style wins. Although Zoe Kravitz looked pretty good in her dress.

  5. MelissaG says:

I agree with all of the above, especially with how flat (as in day old champagne) the show was in general. Thank goodness for rare sparks in the Bigelow and Bullock awards. Sandra was just shocked, but so gracious; she’s come a long way from the girl on the bus.

  6. Kim says:

Demi has probably spent a million to look that way at her age

  7. Rose says:

I was surprised that Steve & Alec weren’t funnier; maybe my expectations were too high, as I like them both so much. I can’t believe how thin SJP is; way past healthy and her poor husband just stands there like he’s a nobody for some reason. Bigelow seemed shocked at the second win so close on the heels of the first; so glad she won and not Mr. Crankypants aka Cameron. And why did Clooney look so irritated?

  8. meg says:

Thought at the first glimpse that Clooney looked either very tired or drunk — yahoo says that he’d briefly shown a flask . . .

  9. Rosemary C says:

Yahoo for Kathryn, who is from my neck of the woods: Northern California. I think George’s grumpy shots were an inside joke with the hosts. Miley’s dress looked like the top of the long line strapless bras we wore in the 60’s. Not only did that Twilight starlet not stand up straight, she also sneezed without doing the “Dracula arm pose” Gross!!! I was very happy with all of the results. I always get into my jammies, my husband makes a fabulous Oscar meal, and we have popcorn and movie candy for dessert. Pretty good show, but would love some crazy thing to happen. Remember the streaker?? (and David Niven’s comment)

seems a bit ironic to wish that a gender label not be attached to someone’s success and immediately follow it with comments on the appearance of only the female contenders…

  11. Bonne Marie says:

But Bigelow is a director; the others are actresses.

Their whole essence includes the costuming they choose to wear in public, especially for the premier event of the year for their industry. And since this is a fashion site, it is all a matter of relishing (or not) the design of the garments, not the people themselves. They welcome and expect to be judged on that level otherwise they wouldn’t be in the game — especially the Red Carpet, which has a life of its own. :)

  12. fiddlewitch says:

yes, what you said–a valid distinction (and kathryn didn’t look so bad herself, eh?) on another note, could you email me? i just messed up buying a pattern (paypal took payment, but i didn’t follow instructions i guess) and want to get the pdf and cast on SOON. sorry…

  13. fiddlewitch says:

    never mind–an email came through, i’m good…duh…

  14. Patty says:

I was wondering what was up with Mr. Clooney as well. He looked mis-er-able! Many congrats to Miss Bigelow!

  15. Marg says:

I thought the incomprehensible flower thingies looked a bit… er…. deflated and yes, too many of the poor dears just don’t stand up straight. Maybe because they don’t eat enough?

Ms. Bigelow, on the other hand, is standing tall! Woooohoooo!
