YAY! I got my letter!

A couple of weeks ago, I was ringing the knitting blogs and found some people were already talking about Stitches Midwest. Now, I’ve only gone once before, and I was making a video, so I’m wasn’t able to IMMERSE myself into the experience.

I’ve been told the best thing about this gathering is the CLASSES! So I upped for four and VOILA! There’s my confirmation letter – with, I’m hoping, an atta boy for enrolling early. That was the other thing people told me – enroll early because the best classes go fast. Sure enough – many were already closed when I tried to survey the listing but I think I got what I wanted.

Why do I say THINK? Because all this letter told me was that I was *Tentatively* enrolled in the classes. Awhat?

I picked these four classes:

Sat AM: “the Perfect Sleeve” taught by Jean Frost (!)
Sat PM: “Grafting with a Russian Twist” taught by Galina Khmeleva
Sun AM: “Where Do My Hands Go?” pockets as taught by Barry Klein
Sun PM: “7 Things that can Make or Break a Sweater” by Margaret Fisher

Anybody take classes before? I thought they sounded right up my alley! :)

I’ve taken the Grafting class last year at the TKGA Nat’l conference. it’s a really neat technique with a lot of applications and Galina explains it well. And any class taught by Barry Klein is well done – I was lucky enough to take two classes with him. Enjoy!

    Excellent! And I’m so jealous!

I went to Stitches Midwest a couople of years back, and attended a class taught by Margaret Fisher. She’s a very good teacher, with a great attention to detail. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it!

Those sound like great classes! I’ve never been able to take a class, but I would definitely love to take one taught by Galina. They all sound right up your alley. Enjoy!

I took the 7 Things Make or Break… at StitchesEast last year. Good info, but parts were elementary-not for me, but there were one or two attendees looking around and yawning.

I liked it…BUT I will take more space/patience for the market. I was overwhelmed and left without getting some things I should have

Why, oh why, isn’t there a Stitches Deepsouth?

I’ve been to Stitches West twice – the first time I took a class on knitting with wire by Nancie Wiseman – that was very good, another class by Debbie New on swirl knitting was awesome (plus I got to meet her – this was years before her book came out), and last a class on how to knit socks. All in all, I really enjoyed the classes and the convention floor with all of the yarn, books and accessories for sale was great, too. Enjoy yourself and wear one of your creations to show off – everyone else will be!

Never been to SW, nor have I taken those classes, but I have Jean Frost’s fabulous book on jackets — you’ll be in great hands there. I am actually taking my first knitting classes in years next month when Lucy Neatby comes to Calgary…imagine! Knitting *tesselations*!

This year will be my 4th Stitches Midwest to attend. I have taken Margaret Fisher’s class, she is very thorough! And I have taken two classes from Jean Frost. Her jackets are incredible! I have not made my decisions on classes, gotta do that before the week is out. Market and give aways are fabulous. I won a sweater kit last year at dinner! Bonne, I am a Windy City Knitting Guild member way down here in Pekin!

OOOHHhh! I’m looking forward to meeting all these fabulous teachers! Especially Jean Frost – I have admired her work for years and just am enthralled by her expertise…

I’d love to meet/be taught by Ms. Neatby as well! Lucky Marg!

  10. Karen B says:

Thanks for reminding to register! I’m taking Barry Klein’s “Complete from the Neck Down” and Melissa Leapman’s “Fully Fashioned and Fabulous” classes.

Can’t wait to me up with others of my crafty tribe!

  11. Amanda says:

I’ll be taking “Getting over the Fear of Cutting” with Nancy Bush and “Joy of Finishing” with Christine Bylsma. These are the first actual knitting classes I’ll be taking.

There is talk of a bunch of us knitters getting together as MW Stitches…

Are you all staying out at the hotel? I’ve been thinking I should just stay overnight…

  13. Amanda says:

I had thought about a hotel, but then I started prcing them out. I live in the south Suburbs, so I think that I could drive it for 2 days. I would *hope* that the traffic won’t be too bad early on a Saturday morning…

  14. Bonne Marie says:

I was thinking the same thing myself – but something makes me want to hang out in a hotel – maybe I’ll grow out of this notion in a few days…
