baby.jpgbaby talk

There’s a baby boom goin’ on over here in Chic World! Lots and lots of my friends and family are having babies. Usually, I’m too lame to get a knitted item together but when my friend L had her handsome boy a couple of weeks ago, I just had to go a little crazy.

“The Baby Owner’s Manual”: this tome is actually written by an MD, but in a very tongue-in-cheek way that is hilarious. AND, it has really rockin’ fine graphic design throughout. The new Mommy is a creative and will dig that, along with the fun hints… I hope. :)

Scrappy DOO: in the middle right corner of the picture above you see a little 6″ stuffed toy. He is a knitted Scrappy Doo, the nephew of my fave, Scooby Doo. I have some washable wool (the only one I really like, Filatura 501) to make a pal for the new baby boy! I hope I can unhook my selfish heart for the few minutes it will take to wrap it and actually manage to give it away when it’s finished. I LOVE THIS TOY! The UK pattern is from the time of the first incarnation of the SDoo cartoons and is out-of-print. I found it on eBay a couple of years ago.

I’ve seen lots of knitted toy success online (remember the ZooAlong?) and darnit, I hope I make those tiny legs right!

That book totally cracks me up! Good info but in the funniest format ever.

I know the pain of giving away a knitted toy! Now I’m really longing to make another knitted toy. I don’t know how I’ve managed to hold off so long as I have the Perfect Pups Dachshund pattern. (Probably cuz its hard for me to get the gauge that’s called for). I’m guessing that Scrappy Doo is also a Sirdar pattern? They seem to have some great toy designs.

I received two copies of that book from my sis, who works at a printing company. Gave one to a male co-worker (he and his wife were about to have twins) and he later told me he loved it. Gave the other one to my boss to give to his sister. He typed up a generic cover letter – like when you get a new car and they send you the manual, and mailed it to her. She freaked out because she though some bizarre group was keeping track of her and her soon to be baby. He had to tell her right away it was just him…

That FdC 501 yarn is great. My previous favorite washable was Debbie Bliss Merino DK (also from elann) but I knit it all up & had to find something else. I think the 501 is even better. My sister claims her kids are allergic to wool so I don’t tell her it’s wool – I just tell her it’s washable and I guess she assumes it’s acrylic.

Three women at my work announced they were pregnant last week — thanks for the gift ideas. I’m going to need them!

I still have 3 baby patterns that I need to start/complete!!! Maybe this weekend? I love that book! I saw it when I started shopping for my best friend when she got pregnate. Too funny.

I’m in the middle of knitting a sweater for my husband’s best friend’s baby due any day now. Since my husband and his friend have been huge hockey fans and players all of their lives, this little sweater is my best interpretation of an old time Detroit Red Wings sweater (jerseys were called sweaters back then). Of course, as soon as I’m done with this one, I’ll start a matching one for our 18 month-old!!!

That pattern is AWESOME! I suppose I should like Scrappy, because we’re both so short, but Scooby is still my favorite. ~_^

My favorite washable wool is Aurora 8, by far! But I haven’t tried 501 yet.
