New Threads FRIDAY!

Sea & Sky Cardi

After a trip to the button box and a warm soapy wash, the cardi finally hits the runway! Even though the weatherman says it’s going to be, drumroll please, 85 frickin’ degrees today (I might hide a way from it, it’s so unusual) like everyone in the Big Windy says, “If you don’t like the weather, wait 10 minutes.” OR, in this case, a few days, and then it’s back in the 60′s, and Cardi Wearin’ Time.

MODS: I made this Basic Chic Hoodie with 3/4 length sleeves and used the lace pattern all the way around for cuffs and I did a 2×2 rib instead of a hood, no buttonhholes or buttons on the pockets. Easy peasy.

Seeing it up on the mannequin, in its finished pose, it strikes a rather Oriental air. The sleeves & lace combo especially mimic robes and jackets I’ve seen on Chinese textiles. Although my photographer (moi) has lost the muse for portraits in the current crib set-up (no room) I’ll find a friend to take a picture of this modeled at some point. :)

Just beautiful! How about some modeled shots and your smiling face? :-)

  2. polly says:

    Absolutely gorgeous!

  3. Jennifer says:

It looks wonderful! We’re due for that hot weather too – I’m with you, it isn’t time.

  4. So very pretty! And the yarn definitely expresses the ‘Sea and Sky’ image. Hope it cools off enough so you can enjoy it. You can always send some of that heat out West and North — here in Central Alberta we have +3C and snow on the ground!

  5. Michelle says:

I absolutely love how this cardi turned out……the color and the mods work perfectly. Would love to see it on you, Bonne Marie!

  6. Ali says:

It evokes such a lovely mood. Well done!

  8. Pam Huang says:

It looks gorgeous!! I feel inspired to knit one now. According to the weatherman, you’ll get your chance to wear it after this weekend.

Bonne Marie, I love it! When I made my Charlotte’s Web years ago, the colors the Threadbears chose were called Sand & Sea and are quite similar. I don’t suppose you’re coming to MSW?

  10. Catherine says:

It’s awesome Bonnie Marie! Love, love, love :)

  11. Kate G. says:

Definitely lakeside attire. Masterful handling of the stripes and lace mods, Ms. Chic. My question is: short skirt or midi…espadrilles or the latest gladiator sandals?

  12. Willa Jean says:

    Just stunning! Absolutely gorgeous.

I love the yarn. Did you have to work hard to match up the stripes when you changed balls? Did this increase the total yardage needed?
    Thanks!

  14. Bonne Marie says:

    Thanks so much!

I didn’t work very hard to match – the pattern repeats are not too long so it’s easy to find the place to start in. My bad, I didn’t really keep track of how many skeins I had initially and can’t find a record anywhere.

  15. Karen B. says:

Oh, ain’t she pretty! Love those undulating waves of color.
