Everybody’s wearing them hence it’s all about the Hoodie here on the sidewalk runways of Chicago. Another one has landed on my needles. It’s nippy and snippy in the morning now and there is nothing nicer than having that *accessory* to quick snap up over one’s sleepy head in the drizzle fashizzle of the early day…

This one is black wool and is just a little different.

Instead of the lace pattern along the edges, I’ve added a DOUGHNUT!

Now, you must admit that COFFEE is a requisite morning poke and it all goes better with, yep, a pastry! But this one, thank god, is lo-cal, unlike the dozens that now face me every morning in my new commute. My daily toils now land me in what we call here in Chicago: the Loop. I’ve been re-routed!

Hasta la vista, #66. I’m now on the Blue Line in the AM and what a kick in the pants it is. First of all, I have to walk 6 blocks to the subway (we’ll see how that plays in January) but second, when I get off the train (a speedy 10 minute ride after the gnarly walk) and come up the stairs right under the Thompson Center, there is a Dunkin’ Doughnuts RIGHT IN MY FACE!

People I come from doughnut stock, doughnut crazy love. My Mom made really great doughnuts from scratch we were so besotted. She never visited anywhere empty-handed, and if she didn’t have time to whip something up, the visited got a couple of dozen from the bakery of: doughnuts.

So in the great tradition of knitters before me who take inspiration from the hill and dale, moss and sea, sky and trail, I too am imbued with my landscape and motivated to re-create its glory.

For your pleasure, here is my cable:

Wow, thanks for the little cable, it’s great! My mom made homemade doughtnuts, too (back when she cooked…she’s so over it now). She actually approves of DD though, I think it’s because of the coffee.

  2. Jennifer Says:

I love the doughnut mod. And what a tough temptation to face every morning!

  3. Natalia Says:

That is one tasty cable! Thanks for sharing it (and those tempting recipes!)

  4. Laura K Says:

How ’bout a kolachy bobble next? :)

  5. Maureen Says:

Love it! Do as I do and eat doughnuts only when you are “home” in Michigan (for me it is Connecticut where we worship the “cruller”). Those doughnuts “back home” are so much better than the mass produced stuff.

  6. Hissy Stitch Says:

But-but-but… I already HAVE like a year’s worth of knitting or more in my queue and all the yarn bought for it, too. And now ya have to go and tempt me again!

  7. Marlena Says:

Love the cable! I’m a fellow donut hound, and had the same problem as you when I lived in Boston! I’d get to Government Center and the first thing I’d see was a Dunkin’ Donuts! I could never get away without a coffee and donut. Usually a French Cruller. Great, now I’m hungry. And I don’t do NEARLY as much walking as I did then to work it off!

  8. Trish Says:

OMG – I think if I didn’t knit that my toushie would be made of powdered sugar doughnuts! This is the best way to have doughnuts be a part of your life without expanding the old waistline.

  9. Lori Says:

WOW – LOVE the ode to doughnut cable. I may have to break down and start on this one. Much fewer calories knitting one rather that eating one! That’s for giving me a calorie safe temptation!

  10. Pamela Says:

Mmmnnn, Michigan doughnuts…particularly those from the Dexter or Franklin cider mills. Thanks for the cable pattern, it will look great. By the by, would a cotton blend yarn (and which one) work for Yank? Can’t do wool.

  11. Pat Says:

I love the doughnut version – this will be my next sweater (after Socktober!!) – thanks for all the fun choices on this sweater!

  12. Wanda Says:

I love the doughnut cable. Very cool!
