Like many in the USA this Summer 2004, I’ve been tossed and turned by the unnaturally COOOOL weather.

Now that it’s in the HOT HIGH 80s, I’m trying to play CatchUP with all the summer activities I missed earlier in the season.
The weekends have been chockOblock full of hither and yon!
Playtime and sandtime; festivals and shows!

This weekend in Chicago was the BEST so far! The 46th (!) Annual Chicago Air & Water Show took place over Lakefront and I joined the over 2.2 MILLION folks who sat a spell down by the waterside…

The Pageantry! The FlyBys! The Ice Cream! The Radio Wing Men! The Golden Knights! The mighty, the one and only, BLUE ANGELS!!!

I LOVE THE AIR SHOW! It is one of my lifetime ambitions to fly in an F16 (or other jet) and take pictures from the air! I’ve taken enough from the ground, (including several days last week), to have virtual WhipLAsh from the spinning around of my camera and tripod (it’s quite a sudden movement – BOOOINGG! – when you track those babies through a fly by!).

I was so excited by all of this that when I attended the show I never even saw it coming!

The Sunburn!

I am fried, ON ONE SIDE ONLY, like a piece of fine BACON!

I guess I was so used to the Summer being pitifully SUNless, that I forgot all about the water reflection factor and bright overhead orb effect. YUP! I had on a ton of sunscreen but Mr. Sun found me none-the-less and striped me like a freshly-painted BARBER POLE!

HENCE! the scarlet-hued picture above – Missy Red Face in her Lacy Poncho!

Now that I’ve photographed it, I’m saving the
NOMER: Urban Pshawl for another creation, because it looks, well, rather trad And I LOVE IT!

I think it would l@@k very special in, hmmm, KOIGU!!!

NOTE: on a normal person, the length at the wrists would be at least 2 inches longer but I have very long arms…

I’ve been waiting to see the Pshawl now Lacy Poncho on you…it’s beautiful!!

Will you be making the pattern available?

Take care of the sunburn…here’s to it turning a beautiful shade of tan.

  2. Amanda says:

    Simply stunning.

  3. Carrie says:

WOW. It looks great!!! So elegant.

  4. Samina says:

The poncho looks great on you. I like its openness. I also wanted to let you know that I just finished your ribby shell & it was a joy to make & turned out wonderfully. Definitely a great, quick & satisfying knit. I used Classic Elite’s Star at a gauge of 5.5 sts/inch, which got me a top that fit me perfectly. Yay!

  5. Lisa says:

oh! oh! oh!!!! Poncho is BEAUTIFUL

  6. rachelkates says:

Tres bien! Thanks for modeling it.

May I suggest that next year after the big airshow, you take a breather in the Old Town neighborhood at Midwest Buddhist Temple’s Ginza Festival. The teryaki chicken & live entertainment are always crowd pleasers.

  7. It’s fabulous! I like the lacy openess, too, much more than a regular ol’ claustrophobic poncho. Excellent work, Bonne Marie.

Don’t forget some aloe for the burn…

  8. Michelle says:

    Huzzah and Kudos! Love it!

  9. Jennifer says:

LOVE the poncho! Might I recomend the Neutrogena After Sun cream it is wonderful and will help that red mellow into a beautiful tan.

  10. Pat says:

I love it. I hope you offering the pattern!

  11. Terri says:

Very nice poncho! And my secret for turning a burn into a tan is Solarcaine Aloe Vera gel – and lots of it. Prevents the peeling, scabby look (ewww!) and soothes the burn.

  12. Lori Basilico says:

    Love the Poncho!!!!!

  13. Karen Heinig says:

I love it! It’s gorgeous and transverses the seasons very well.

  14. Jessamyn says:

Tres Chic! Absolutely lovely! From one melanin-challenged knitter to another, I highly recommend liberal use of anti-inflammatories to help ease the sun’s after-effects.

  15. jackie says:

  16. patty says:

  22. Jackie says:

Oh my gosh – it is sooo beautiful. I’ve been checking in every day to see the finished product. It was worth the wait!
I am making your mondocable in purple Mission Falls cotton – it is such a fun pattern! I love it in the cables in the nubby yarn. Is there any chance we will see your pshawl pattern for sale soon??

Lovely poncho…it really looks good on.

sounds like someone needs some aloe vera…

    Poor Ms. Bonne Marie!

  29. Bonne Marie says:

OOOoh! I’m blushing from all of your KIND wonderful compliments! (if you could only see through the sunburn :)

I’m becoming partial to wearing this in the cool mornings with my coffee – it is sooo much more manageable than a shawl! No SLippsies and slidies or tye-sies…

  30. Cathy says:

I want one! And I don’t usually like ponchos.

  31. shell says:

OMG, this poncho is beautiful. Lovely, stunning, etc. etc. You look elegant yet currently stylish all at the sme time. possibly, a new chic-knits pattern offering? Fab.

  33. Kat says:

Fab poncho- and the very thing as my superstylish friend wants one for her birthday and all the poncho patterns I’ve seen are just a bit… naff. So you have saved my bacon in a big way.
Will you get the pattern up soon?
    Keep up the great work,

  34. sara says:

LOVE IT! love it so much. so what if I’m the 34th person to say it. gorgeous!

  35. shannita says:

very cute. and i agree, it would look quite fine in koigu or cherry tree hill sock yarn or their lace weight merino. in fact, i have 5 skeins of KPPPM (is that enough) and a hank of the laceweight merino waiting to become something beautiful. hint, hint…

  36. B. says:

    Wow…another beautiful piece!
