Thinking about knitting the Aleita Shell? The instructions work with yarns at 21 sts per 4 ” over St st giving a Finished Size: 32 ½ (36 ¼, 40, 42, 45 ¾)” bust circumference AND they also work with yarns at 20 sts per 4 ” over St st (or 5 sts per inch, which might be easier for some folks to find…) giving a Finished Size: 34 (38, 42, 44, 48)” bust circumference.

The row gauge for both is 28 rows per 4” (7 rows per inch). Using this easy to find gauge expands the size range of the pattern a bit. The pictures below show the Shell with 1" of ease and it’s a size 38.

I do love this pattern, it is on my list of post-baby knitting. It’s definitely got some va-va-voom potential there.

  2. Seanna Lea says:

    Thank you!

I finally remembered to add it to my Ravelry queue.

  3. Jennifer says:

This is always helpful – not having knit many spring/summer pieces I always feel lost in selecting yarn. Thanks!

  4. Anne C. says:

Wow – thanks so much for posting suggested yarns – what a help. Have had great success with your Twist and Ariann patterns!

  5. Dianne says:

Thanks for this information. It makes it a lot easier to knit this shell.

  6. Susan says:

    Hi Bonne Marie,

Well, you are so smart! Here I was fiddling with the original directions in my head, to bring Aleita up just a little bigger than 45.74–and of course, change the gauge a little! I just happen to have a big stash of Cotton Fleece, to. Now if I can find a needle without a project on it… I made a rule, no more buying new needles instead of finishing UFOs around here

    thanks for the great pattern–again.
    Susan

  7. Sarah says:

Thank you for publishing this list of yarn. I saw the pattern in interweave and thought it looks so stylish but plymouth linen isle isn’t something I’ve come across in England.

    Sarah
