Red lipstick and a little extra mascara are my security blanket on a bad day. Oh, I just love your new earrings. So practical. I can see those being an everyday sort of item. :D

  2. Helen says:

    Today’s fashion formula, class:

Tent dress + ankle boots + white sunglasses = Phyllis Diller

  3. meg says:

I’m *so* out of it, just recently I got a pair of low-rise pants (Target Mizrahi) & can’t quite get over the panicky feeling that they may desert me in the most humiliating way . .

  4. Rita says:

I confess to wearing vests (love them) higher waisted jeans (still like them) and think a tent dress could be a good thing right about now. I have a feeling the earrings you mentioned weren’t the ones that popped up for me, if I’m wrong, good going!

  5. Sarah says:

Oh, I thought she was being sarcastic about the earrings, but maybe I ma wrong. ;)

  6. Bonne Marie says:

Yes, m’dears, the day I can afford that kind of BLING is perhaps only in the afterlife, (where all one’s dreams come true at last?) ;p

What I thought was hilarious was that Sam’s Club(!) had earrings for sale that cost over $300,000!!! WOULD ya buy something for 300k online, sight unseen? WHAT is the logique behind that???

I know what you mean, Meg, about southbound lo-riders. I had some on the other day, and just carrying my ID in my pocket caused a minor crack attack…

  7. Brooke says:

I’ve LOVED fedoras and vests for a long time. I even own an off-white mohair fedora from the gap which I wear all. the. time. There’s no way I could fit everything I “need” into a clutch, and I think the problem with truly high waited jeans is what that may cause in the crotchural region. They just look painful. But I’m all for higher-waisted jeans. I prefer to keep the crack in my pants.

  8. Laurie says:

OK, I don’t understand the fedora, tent dress and white sunglasses, but yay for the high waisted jeans. So few women actually looked good in the low waisted jeans and personally, I have a very high waist so I have been miserable in the only jean choices out there.

Nothing less attractive than me walking around tugging my pants up. Well, maybe me in a fedora and white sunglasses while tugging my pants up.

  9. Bonne Marie says:

You are probably wearing nice fitting pants (which I am always trying to find).

Scroll down on this url for some high-waisted shenanigans…

I couldn’t find the picture that came to mind of Fergie wearing short, high-waisted, tight denim shorts with suspenders.

  10. Seanna Lea says:

My first thought looking at the bling page was the navigation on the left. You can buy Churches and other Religious Institutions at Sam’s Club! I wonder how much a small UU would go for.

  11. Sil says:

I wore all those things in the late 80s…AAACCKKKK.

  12. Tracey says:

LOL to Helen. Yes my friends the 80’s are back…why? No one really looks good in a tent dress, who are we kidding? Seriously, I may have to sit out on this next wave of fashion that’s being regurgitated from my childhood. ‘Cept for the fedora.

Psst, B-Marie, I stoled your haircut (the long shag). Hope you don’t mind, I needed a “Oh my word I’m pregnant and frumpy pick me up.” Love it!

  13. Leah says:

And I was so looking forward to wearing high waisted jeans! Again!!

  14. Carol says:

I confess: Platform shoes and huuuge bell bottoms with a 1″ zipper. *quickly steps away*

  15. elizabeth m says:

The white sunglasses thing just confuses me. But I approve of higher waistlines on women’s pants and I think bright colored tights are fun on a drab day. And the right pair of ankle boots… I could see it, but not the ones featured in the article.

But mostly, I don’t think that list of “must haves” was meant to describe what 95% of the women in America wore in 2007. At least not the ones I see around me.

  16. tllgrrl aka gwen says:

    Holy cow!
Tent dresses? Oh, yeah. Because they looked so good back in 1971. Only Twiggy looked cute in a tent dress.
Day clutch? What the heck is that? Is that something women that don’t go to work carry?
Bright tights? Haven’t done that since junior high. Not doing it again.
    Cocktail rings? ??? ?????? Whatever.
Vests and fedoras? OK. On the right women, in the right setting? No problem.
But high-waisted jeans? No. No…and no.
And regarding white sunglasses? All the more reason I’ll be wearing my never-out-of-style RayBan Wayfarers.
Time magazine should maybe leave the fashion stuff alone.
    With Esquire.

  17. Marlena says:

I love tent dresses, though I didn’t wear any last year, and while I always appreciate the look of a fedora in a fashion shoot, I feel weird wearing one myself. I bought a few cocktail rings in 2006 that I wore all year long, and have always been a fan of red lipstick (is that ever really NOT in style?)

The only thing on that list that I really had a visceral reaction to was the high waisted pants. I haven’t worn pants over my belly button since like 1991. I’m not going to start now. A high waisted skirt, however, I think I could get behind.
