self-portrait Tuesday

Well. If an elf is going to have to stand on their feet all the live long day, the elf should have Good Shoes.
Or, really Excellent BOOTS!
Wherein, ye olde Haus of Claus has clad my poor old dogs in some new Blundstone’s (Blundstone 500: Stout Brown) and I must say: Thank YOU, Santa~!
I first spied these boots on
someone we all know and love, seen here on the left, in 2005…
Then I read about the enchanting Enchanting Juno and her new shoes (ala November 16th) and I couldn’t help myself any longer…
The very first pair that hit Chez Chic came a few weeks ago (before the snow, icy rain and below freezing weather). My neighbor and her 2yo son were in the hallway when our handsome UPS guy handed ‘em over and you’d have thought I won the lottery! To tiny fanfare, we ripped open the box and pulled them out and VOILA! They were big, way big, and I was crushed and mystified, until I again visited them again online (ie. Sugar River Outfitters).
Never one to read the fine print, I made the mistake of ordering my American size: 8. In Australian sizing, that is the equivalent of U.S. size 10.5.
So back they went but quickly they came again…
And it was better than I could’ve hoped for! It is reckless for me to even try and buy shoes online. I have rather irregular feet; too wide, have a stainless steel pin in my right big toe from a surgery, and left foot front is twisted from rheumatoid arthritis I’ve had since I was a kid. But as soon as I slipped these on, it was heaven. They FIT!
And forgive me for saying this, but they look pretty damn swank with Long John’s…

Ahhhhhhh. And for those of us who have “the difficult feets” (as Manolo is wont to say), a comfortable piece of footwear is manna from Heaven. Lucky you. I may just look into these myself, being posessed of size 6 WW feet.
And of course, new wonderful boots deserve new, wonderful cushy handknit socks, yes? And you’ve got those coming off the needles in double-quick time, right?
Oh those are great! Wear in good health and comfort :)
My,oh my — I’d never heard of these until now, but I am seriously tempted to get my handsome UPS man (must be something about our street) to bring me some! They look perfect.
Yeah for you! I’ve been wearing that brand of boots for about 9 years now and have many different styles and I love them all. They’re great! So happy for your feet!
I have those exact same boots myself – I too bought them after seeing Juno’s boots – and aren’t they just bliss to wear? I bought mine a fraction larger than my usual size to allow for always wearing handknit socks with them, and they are so comfortable, I forget I have them on. So glad that you like yours!
I’m wearing my blunnies right now! They are the best. I’ve had them for years. Hiked in Yosemite with them. The very best for hand knit socks, hooray!
Congratulations! I’ve never looked back since I started with Blundstones – OK for work, support my feet well, good for cycling or walking to work, none of that uncool exposed-ankle look, and here in downtown Toronto my favourite people wear them. Not just the Harlot, but my spouse, my best friends, my minister, the national leader of my political party… Enjoy them.
Oooh, marvy. I need something especially comfy and supportive for mah feets. *ahem* enabler
Oh, my goodness. I used to have those boots – years ago. I’d completely forgotten about them until now. Don’t know what happened, I think they went missing in one of my many moves. They are so comfortable, aren’t they? They look great. Congratulations!
Those boots are too cute!
Join the Blunny crew! Funny, but I’ve got a new pair on my list for the holidays as I finally wore through the soles of the old ones after SEVEN years of near continuous wear (three summer months of exception). Amortized — they were 110 dollars — over seven years, that’s a screamin’ deal.
I have coveted Blunnies for years. Someday I, too, will add a pair to the closet!
Whoa, I love those boots. I confess, I have a bit of a boot fetish, so now you’ve given me something new to save for. AND the sockage looks tres cool above the cuff…..
You’re going to love them. Except for the summer (when I wear birkenstocks) and the dead of winter when I need something a little warmer, I wear my blunnies everywhere, everyday. I wear them with skirts, with pants… with jeans.
Frankly, if there’s somewhere I can’t wear blunnies, I don’t want to go. Great boots. Necessary boots…and Beth’s right. They are so popular here that they are considered part of the “Toronto Uniform.” (We shall have to get you a MEC jacket now.)
Glad you love them.
those boots ROCK!
if you’re a boot whore, like i am, you might check out Fluevogs.
oh.my.god.
i just got a pair of Big Ruths (did some modification dying) and am so so happy.
