  Monday Morning Mirth

Chicago, sometimes best known for its Wind, should instead, be known for its MUSIC!

Where else can one wander into a complete screaming party in the middle of a Sunday summer afternoon, in the middle of a small quiet park? The Old Town School of Music, up on Lincoln Ave. was behind a rousing tent-town and unleashed upon its citizens: The Polkaholics!

And, ladies and gentlemen, where there goes Polka, eventually there goes CHICKEN!

[DANCE that is…]

But this is not any old chicken, this is Punk Chicken, baby.

Don’t know how to make the dance? We teach you now.

You too, Miss Burns, no standing still, you slacker!

No person was unmoved by the POWER of the POLKA!

We went to the Folk and Roots Festival too — a great celebration with such beautiful weather, but I’m sorry now that we didn’t bump into either you or the Polkaholics!

  2. Vicki says:

Aw, that bad is adorable. The annual “Polka Days” was just held in Pulaski (WI) over the weekend. I wonder how many times the Chicken Dance was danced… and over how many beer barrels.

Wow- do I have good memories of that area in Lincoln Park that becomes Tent-town… mostly German-American club parties- but they too include polka bands. Just not cool punk ones!

I particularly am in love with his shiny gold vest… the fuzzy bits kindof look like feathers, it makes me think he picked his outfit based on how authentic it’d make the chicken dance look? I love the straight on picture by the way- I can just hear him “bwaking”

And I thought Shaky City had the the kings and queens of glam polka with Polkacide, but…nein! Polkaholics outfits alone rate a 3-chord salute.

  5. Carol says:

Where there’s Polka, there’s fun! Wow, does that bring back fond memories!

  6. Terry says:

Wow! looks like alot!! of fun. I wonder if Lawrence Welk is rolling and guffawing at it. Nice knitting there too B.
